Quilting Thread of a Different Color

So I was thinking that we might talk a bit today about one of my favorite threads. This popped into my head as I was reaching for a cone of Superior Thread's Rainbows to  set up  the longarm as I got started on another customer quilt.

"Ugly Quilt -charity quilting

I don't talk a lot about my longarming and I guess I should. As you may know I own an Avante 18 made by HandiQuilter and I LOVE it. There are a lot of machines on the market but the Avante was the right machine for me. Proved even further by getting the privilege  of being part of this year's ad campaign with a wonderful group of other women and one great guy! I have never regretted my choice of machines for even a moment and concentrate on expressive freestyle quilting to complement the quilts I get in and those I make for myself and family.  Flying in the face of the  modern quilting movements love of straight lines I live for the swirls, open feathers and flame work that is possible on these wonderful machines.

While my machine can use any quality thread under the sun it runs best with Rainbows. And while not right for each quilt it is perfect for the batik I loaded up tonight; the sheen  and color pacing of Rainbows is really going to bring fire and light to this project.

Last year I did a tree skirt in deep charcoal gray fabric with a pink and green and orange variegated Rainbows for the quilting and  it fairly twinkled under the tree  with the refraction of the tree lights on the thread.. just beautiful!

For those who might want to try Rainbows here is the skinny- Rainbows is 40 wt. high-sheen premium trilobal polyester thread with a one-inch color change interval. For embroidery and quilting., It comes in something like 60ish colors and  comes on cones ( my choice) and spools ( better for the non-long armer)...

..... To pass on my love for this thread I have a  500 yard spool of Rainbows to give away!  It is the divine color of Gypsy Rainbows  and can be yours by leaving a comment telling me about your favorite thread! ( quilting or sewing)   I will draw for a winner on Friday!

p.s. -  This is a NON-sponsored post.. I just like to share my favorite products with you.. so you can rest assured that I really do love this stuff so if you don't want to sign up for the giveaway I would be thrilled to keep this spool to go along with the sister spool I bought yesterday :)

Do I have a favorite thread? Not really I am interested in trying a polyester for quilting. I normally use a cotton, but I read that poly quilts better.

Currently, my machine & I are enjoying Gutterman. I have been too afraid to try others.

I don't have a favorite thread but right now I am using Hemmingworth Polyselect. I love its sheen on embroidery.

Hmmmm. Does it really show that I've only recently begun sewing again? Because I don't have a favorite thread! (Although I think most of mine are Coats & Clark.)

How's this? My favorite threads are the ones that match my projects, that are given to me by friends or my mama. That sounds about right.

I've never ventured into the wonderful world of variagated threads. I've stuck to your basic cottons so far - mostly Gutermann. I've heard wonderful things about Aurifil and would love to try some of those one day too! Thanks for the wonderful giveaway and keep up the great inspirational blog posts!

I want to vary what I have my quilts quilted with. I need to step outside the box.

I've used Gutterman with some success. I'm still new to the whole business, so I would love to broaden my horizons and learn what else is out there.

I've not been quilting long enough to have a favorite thread, but if I'm lucky enough to win, this just might be it.

I would rate myself as being just past being a beginner sewer- or is it sewist? :) However my Mama is an excellent quilter and that thread sure would make a great gift for her. ;) Thanks for hosting a giveaway!

Oh Maddie, I am such a novice when it comes to thread! I appreciate any advice you can give on it. I use a poly-cotton blend because a teacher in a class recommended it... otherwise I'm completely in the dark.

PS. You are the best twitter friend & everyone should follow you!! :) :) :)
